Pakistan is known as one of the biggest Muslim Nations in the world.
The country came into being in the Indian sub-continent on the map of
the world in 1947. Pakistan has a greater number of Muslims populations;
the people of Pakistan celebrate its independence day on the 14th of
August every year.

The 14th August is a national holiday in
Pakistan. The day is celebrated all over the country with flag raising
ceremonies, tributes to the national heroes and fireworks taking place
in the capital, Islamabad and also other parts of the country. The main
ceremonies take place in the capital city Islamabad, where the President
and Prime Minister raise the national flag at the Presidential and
Parliament buildings and deliver speeches.

The people of Karachi city which is also
called mini-Pakistan are preparing themselves to participate in the
celebrations of the Independence Day as is growingly evident by their
interest in buying the national flags and buntings in this mega city.
Here residents have already started elevating national flags on the top
of their houses and apartments and buildings. Make-shifts stalls have
sprung up selling national flags and badges in various sizes according
to the budget of various communities of the society.

The passion for the Independence Day
celebration grows to its peak when on the eve of the day the youth come
out in larger numbers on motorbikes and cars besides other available
transport to show their fervor by parading around the city waving the
national flags and playing popular national songs and tunes. The show of
fireworks are also arranged on the eve of the day besides competitions
of Pakistan national songs, speeches, quiz competitions, poetry
contests, games, skits and stage plays are also held.

On the Pakistan Independence Day in
Karachi, all the government and prominent private buildings use to open
up national flags on their rooftops. The buildings are also enlightened
with colorful and attractive lights. The monument of the Founder of
Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah brightened and a large number
of people visit the Mausoleum of the Father of the Nation to pay
admiration and loyalty. The tomb remains open for public at 11 am on
August 14.

The Sindh Governor and Chief Minister of
Sindh use to host the national flag of Pakistan at 9 am on the
Independence Day. They set down floral wreaths on the monument of the
Quaid-e-Azam and offer Fateha there. Wreaths are also set down on the
mausoleum by units of the Armed Forces. Many other social and political
bodies also put up wreaths at the mausoleum.

The City Government has set up numerous
huge poles at different locations from Sharea Faisal and
Shahra-e-Quaideen up to monument of Quaid-e-Azam to raise national
flag. National flags also elevated on all important the buildings of
city and town administrations. Other than public and private educational
institutes, special functions also be held in city government
administered schools in collaboration with the Arts Council of Pakistan
to mark the Day.
