A Memorable Journey From High School To College!
It’s your senior year in high school and graduation is just weeks away. You’ve gotten your college acceptance letter, a whole new wardrobe, and everything for your dorm room is ready to go, but there’s one major problem. The school of your dreams is not only miles away, but none of your friends are attending that school. Even though you are normally a social butterfly, the thought of having to make new friends scares you a bit. If you are hoping to make college some of the best years of your life, here are some tips:
Stick to the things that you are interested in, but don’t be afraid to try new things. Make sure that these things do not go against what you believe in. You’ll need to rely on those beliefs later.
Check out different student groups that have something to offer. Many of these groups host interest meetings and social activities that are a good way to meet new people. If you are short on cash or don’t want to waste any money, then try to find a group that provides extracurricular activities for free. Involvement in these things may even help on future resumes.
Get involved with community service events that may be available.
Form a study group with different classmates. These study buddies may end up becoming good friends.
Try not to enter college being in a serious relationship if your significant other doesn’t go to the same school. You’ll be surprised at how much this can hinder your social growth.
Whatever you do decide to try, make sure that you are not compromising your safety. Too many college students end up in trouble or harmed because they were trying to fit in. The college transition may be tough, but remember that your safety comes first.
These are a few suggestions that will help any anxiety that you may have in your first year of college. Be yourself, and you will find the social network that you are looking for. Enjoy your time there, and make memories which will last for a lifetime.
